Some needs are so basic we forget how powerful they are—until we picture a child walking miles without protection, comfort, or a reliable pair of shoes.
Our friends Nikki & Bill are providing shoes and socks for 150 students at Shalom Junior Trust School in Uganda, and it’s the kind of gift that meets a real, everyday need in a deeply meaningful way.
In many Ugandan communities, families are responsible for school fees and many school-related costs. When budgets are tight, even practical items—like shoes—can become a difficult decision. But for these students, proper footwear isn’t about style. It’s about safety, health, and confidence. Shoes protect feet from rough terrain and sharp objects, make long walks to and from school more manageable, and help kids stay focused on learning instead of discomfort.
What makes this gift even more special is the relationship behind it. Nikki & Bill aren’t giving from a distance—they’ve spent time with these students, sharing laughter, music, and even dancing side-by-side with them. This generosity comes from truly seeing the children in front of them and responding with care and dignity.
Here’s their “why,” in their own words:
“God has guided us to give shoes and socks to the beautiful students at Shalom Junior Trust School in Uganda. We’re honoring their daily journeys—walking over dirt, rocks, and whatever else is on their path… can you imagine? Children do not choose their circumstances. They simply keep moving forward with such innocence, courage, strength, giggles, and grace. We give socks and shoes as our love and our prayers in motion. Keep moving forward! You are each loved, cherished, honored, worthy, and seen so clearly. God bless you all.”
Nikki & Bill—thank you. Your kindness will be felt in the most practical way, every single day—with every step these children take.
