As we closed out our first incredible year as a team with Empower and Shine, we were filled with immense gratitude for the remarkable journey we’ve shared with all of you. Looking back at 2024, we can’t help but marvel at the milestones we’ve achieved, the lives we’ve touched, and the love that has flourished within our community. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our partners, volunteers, and every single person we’ve met along the way who believes in the power of empowerment and kindness.

Last year, we took on monumental tasks that challenged and inspired us in ways we never imagined. Together, we created empowerment journals and domestic abuse journals for both women and men—tools that provide a safe space for reflection, healing, and strength. We worked tirelessly to make sure these journals reached those who needed them most, partnering with several nonprofits to distribute thousands across communities. One of our partners, New Life Center, has been monumental in getting these journals in the hands of those who need them. The impact of the journals was our attempt at a lifeline for individuals seeking support and a reminder that they are never alone.

Our journey took us beyond borders this year, as we traveled to Uganda to support the incredible men and women graduating from the Street Business School. Witnessing the resilience and ambition of these graduates was an experience we will never forget. Their courage to overcome adversity and build sustainable businesses is a testament to the power of education, determination, and community. Further, we were able to visit Shalom, a school for children that has flourished from its humble beginnings in a chicken coop to a beautiful and thriving community school. We cannot wait to see where this next year takes us with our African partners, with huge projects and goals on the horizon.

Closer to home yet still a couple of flights away, we had the honor of visiting The Lifeguard Group’s Safe House—a sanctuary for women who have survived trafficking and abuse. Seeing firsthand the transformation happening within those walls was nothing short of awe-inspiring. It reaffirmed our commitment to supporting organizations dedicated to restoring hope, dignity, and safety to those in need. Welcoming in a new year with more big projects lined up with The Lifeguard Group has us extremely excited. The work they are doing is often ignored and unrecognized and any support they can receive goes incredibly far.

In addition to these life-changing experiences, we launched our brand-new website and blog, creating a digital space to connect with you all, share stories of triumph, and spread messages of hope. This platform has become a sharing space for our community, and we are so grateful to be able to share our initiatives, insights, and inspiration with you. So many of you we meet in passing and this website is the first of our attempts to create a bridge where we can stay connected. Please always feel free to reach out to us with thoughts, questions, stories, ideas, or even just a hello!

Of course, it hasn’t all been about the big milestones. Along the way, we’ve laughed together, loved together, and supported one another through the highs and lows. We’ve created memories, built lasting relationships, and seen firsthand the power of unity and compassion. These moments of joy are what truly make our work meaningful, and we are endlessly grateful for the community we’ve built.

As we reflect on everything we’ve accomplished, we are filled with anticipation for what’s to come. Our hearts are full as we look ahead to 2025, knowing that we will continue to empower, inspire, and shine a light for all. We see you. None of this would be possible without you. Thank you for believing in our mission and for walking alongside us on this journey.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Sunshine Sisters
