Empowering Women in Arizona: Fresh Start Women’s Foundation

As Domestic Violence Awareness Month just ended close, we wanted to highlight another one of our partners and the profound work they have done for over 30 years throughout Phoenix. Through the end of the year, we will be focusing on organizations and individuals who are working to rebuild their lives for the better, and gaining self-empowerment through the process.

Fresh Start Women’s Foundation plays a pivotal role in helping women reach their full potential through a wide variety of resources, services, and support. They truly define empowerment, which is at the core of our own mission as well. By encouraging women to achieve self-sufficiency, overcome abusive situations, and break unhealthy generational patterns, Fresh Start is helping families thrive in Arizona. 

Fresh Start has 3 main areas of focus for women:

Focus One: Sustainability 

 Helping women and their families with community resources, filling basic needs, and learning about the steps needed to accomplish long-lasting change in their lives. 

Focus Two: Education and Employment 

Fresh Start partners with various local businesses to host hiring fairs and place women in gainful employment. They also offer career training, networking, and education about financial literacy and independence. 

Focus Three: Self-sufficiency

Encouraging women to use their strengths to accomplish economic self-sufficiency and empowering them to not just survive, but thrive.

As part of their programming, Fresh Start has multiple support groups of women that meet both virtually and at their beautiful Phoenix location. Through our new partnership, they will be able to provide these women, as well as anyone else who stops in, with our empowerment journals! We are so excited to be able to gift these women in our communities with journals that they can use in whatever ways they like, with the Domestic Abuse Prevention wheels tucked inside for those who need it. 

Fresh Start also offers various workshops on vital topics for women, such as finances and investing, practical skills like budgeting and interviewing tips, executive functioning strategies, computer literacy and so much more. During our tour we were so impressed with not only the aesthetic comfort and beauty of the building, but also the practicality of the space and all of the resources offered to women and their families. There are local lawyers who provide free monthly consultations for women who need legal help, which is an immense burden on many local women and their families, often accompanied by daunting expenses.  The classrooms where women can receive college credits and skills that are directly transferable to high paying jobs is a true reflection of empowerment and what can be accomplished as a community. The on site social workers offer therapy, counseling, and empowerment services in an inviting and comfortable place. Providing someone with basic needs, resources and education truly changes lives.
