Field of Dreams is Born!

Shalom Junior Trust Academy, the school that began in a chicken coop and has blossomed into a space where dreams come true. One brick at a time, this school has evolved into to extraordinary heights with the love, generosity and steadfast efforts from friends, family and sometimes perfect strangers.

Shalom’s latest endeavor “Field of Dreams” is in progress now! 

This idea came to fruition when the Empower and Shine team last visited Uganda. We were there to see the unveiling of newly constructed boys and girls bathrooms, a new playground and a freshly painted school. It was impressive. 

Steve, an integral member of Empower and Shine, (he’s kind of a big deal) saw a need. With a vast swath of open land and a dream, the idea for Field of Dreams was born. The Empower and Shine team were activated! I’m pretty sure by days end it was decided a space where the Shalom Conquerers (the students) could finally participate in a real sports field. This space is crucial for a child’s development. I remember when I was a kid, gym and lunch were my favorite subjects. Having such a space will foster teamwork, confidence, physical fitness and a much needed break from traditional studies. 

The Field of Dreams will be ready by our next visit to Shalom in October. We are beyond excited and look forward to sharing the progress and success this project has become.  I know many friends, family and our supporters have asked how they can get involved or give back. 

The Field of Dreams just happens to be in need of some pretty basic supplies! How cool would it be to donate a soccer ball to some of the most deserving and appreciative students on the planet? It’s easy to do!

We are hoping for to secure some of the following items for the students:

soccer balls, nets, jerseys, footballs, baseballs, gloves, and general athletic gear!
